Keeping You Safe

Something worrying you? Need to talk?

PERSONAL SAFETY

Saying no

Your body belongs to you. No one should ever make you do things that make you feel embarrassed or uncomfortable. If someone asks to see, or tries to touch you, underneath your underwear, say 'NO' – and tell someone you trust and like to speak to.

No one has the right to make you do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. If somebody does make you do something, it is never your fault. Even if the person who has made you feel uncomfortable, has told you it is your fault.

No means no and you always have the right to say ‘no’ – even to a family member or someone you love. You’re in control of your body and the most important thing is how YOU feel. If you want to say ‘no’, it’s your choice

Secrets

There are good and bad secrets. Good secrets can be things like surprise parties or presents for other people. Bad secrets make you feel sad, worried or frightened. You should always talk to a safe adult who you trust about a bad secret or anything that doesn't feel right.

Adults in school are safe adults that you can talk to if something is bothering you. This doesnt have to be your class teacher, it can be the lunchtime staff, the office staff and everyone else inbetween!

Learn the signs

someone may try and get you to do things you don't want to by:

  • offering you money
  • hurting or threatening to hurt you
  • Embarrassing or threatening to embarrass you or tell other people lies about you
  • buying you presents (food, toys, etc)
  • taking you out to places and doing nice things for you
  • giving you a place to live or spend time
  • telling you that they love you
  • telling you that you will upset them if you don't

Always speak to a trusted adult if somebody is making you do something you don't want to do or you don't think is right.

the safeguarding team at school

Safeguarding means taking steps to keep children safe from harm. It involves protecting children from abuse, neglect, and other things that could hurt them, both physically and emotionally. There are certain adults in school who are part of the Safeguarding team and are always able to talk to you about any worries or concerns you have. But don't forget, every adult in school is a safe adult and they are all here to listen to you.
