WELCOME TO our Class PAGE
Mrs Stuart is the class teacher.
The teaching assistants are Mrs Sayers and Mrs Reilly.
We are really looking forward to working with your children this year.
Here we are ready to begin our 4th Term! How quickly time flies when you're having fun!
This term we have an exciting residential trip away to Bore Place. We have a count-down display in the classroom helping us to count down the days until we go.
We all had an absolutely amazing time away at Bore Place - we learnt and did so much! The children were well behaved, extremely inquisitive and very independent, which was lovely to see.
I hope you had a lovely Christmas and wish you a Very Happy New Year.
This term is going to be as busy as ever!
In History we will be learning about The Romans. The children will be learning about the Roman army, what life was life for children in Roman times, Boudicca and what things we still use today which were introduced to us by the Romans. Our English will be linked to our topic and will include drama which the children will be able to use to help in their writing of different genres, including recounts of stories, character descriptions, dialogue and writing our own story using the theme of the Romans. The children will be continuing with their trumpet lessons, which they are really enjoying and making great progress. Our Science Topic this term is Living Things and Their Habitats. The children will be learning about the similarities and differences between
vertebrates, identifying vertebrate groups, identifying the characteristics of living things and making suggestions on how to have a positive effect on the local environment.
The end of Term 2 was a very busy time in school - the children thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas Decoration Day and made lots of wonderful things which we used to decorate the classroom as well as doing some cake decorating. We completed our Stone Age to Iron Age Topic and the children used their learning to create their own Stone Age Dwelling using clay and natural materials. Watch the video below of the children performing their final completed piece of music for this term - Jingle Bells.
This term the children will continue learning about Stone Age to Iron Age in History. They will be using their research skills to find information and write Fact Files. In Geography, the children will embed their map reading skills as well as learning lots about the different countries that make up Europe.
WE HAD A HOOT AT HOWLETTS!
The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves during our trip to Howletts Wild Animal Park. They learnt lots about the habitats and diets of the different animals they saw. This will support their learning during our Science topic next term, Living Things and Their Habitats. The children were extremely well behaved and were a credit to themselves and the school.
During our Music lessons this term the children will continue learning to play the trumpet. They have worked extremely hard and are excited at the prospect of playing for the rest of the school at the end of the term.
As part of our History and DT learning the children researched, designed and made Stone Age jewellery using salt dough.
Silver Birch class have settled in well.
This term in History we will be learning about Stone Age to Iron Age. The children will be learning about life in the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age. Our Geography for this term is Maps and Europe. We will be learning to locate, identify and label different continents on a world map, with our focus being on Europe and the countries and geographical features that make up Europe.
Our English will be linked to our history and will include drama which the children will be able to use to help in their writing of different genres, including character descriptions, recounts of stories, dialogue and writing their own story using the theme of life in the Stone Age. During our English lessons the children will be using a new strategy to support their writing – Talk it, Trade it cards – which enables the children to share ideas.
We have PE every Wednesday so please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit on Wednesdays. As the weather begins to cool, please make sure your child’s PE kit includes jogging bottoms and sweatshirt. The children will be learning how to play ‘Bucket Rounders’ so we will be focusing on throwing accurately, catching, batting, and fielding.
Reading records are again being sent home with the children. Children should be reading every night at home. I would encourage all parents to listen to their children read as often as possible as this clearly has a positive impact on their writing skills.
Homework is sent home in a Homework book. This is given to the children on a Friday and is due back in school on Thursday. Homework will consist of spellings, English, Maths, and something linked to another subject.
