We are a lively class of 30 children, who love to play and explore.

2019 Riddle Winners

Maple class were entered into a competition called'My First Riddle.' We found out last week out of 8000 entries from reception classes throughout the UK, 23 of our pupils were chosen to be published in 'My First Riddle 2019-Kent.'   We are really excited to read each one of riddles which will be published on the 7th June. Well Done Maple class!

Our topic this term in Maple class is pirates.  We have enjoyed making wanted posters for the pirates who stole the underpants from our story Pirates love underpants.

We are looking forward to our Pirate Day on Wednesday 10th July.  Please remember to dress as a pirate!

We met Miss Broad, our new class teacher, last week and are looking forward to spending the afternoon with her on Thursday 4th July. 

Please can I remind all parents to provide a PE kit every Monday!​

Welcome Back! We hope you all had a lovely Easter break.  We would like to thank you all for the response to our weekly homework; we feel this has had a great impact on the children's maths and literacy. Our topic this term is On The Farm and we will be growing our own vegetables in our outdoor area. We have noticed a rise in our Oxford Reading Tree levels. We would like to thank you for all of your support. Please do continue reading at home with your child.  We look forward to seeing you all at our next stay and play session which is on Wednesday 22nd May. 

 

 

February 2019

 

 

This term we are learning about Minibeasts. We have read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, We’re Going On a Bear Hunt and Superworm. We used symmetrical patterns to create some butterflies and created caterpillars with our hands. PE is on a Monday Morning; please provide PE kits. We are focussing on balancing this term and have used a variety of ways of moving across different apparatus. Each week 2 children from Maple Class are chosen to undertake show and tell. Your child will be provided with a sticker when it is their turn.  Each week children are able to choose a book from our library to share with their families at home. Please return when finished. We also ask you to read with your child every day and to please bring in your child’s reading book and record so we can change their reading book.

 

 

 

 

November 2018

 

This term Maple class are learning about Seasons and Festivals. We enjoyed learning about Diwali, where we made Diwali lanterns. For Remembrance Day we made poppy handprints and for Children in Need we took part in the Bring and Buy sale. We enjoyed our school trip to Greenwich Maritime Museum, where we took part in a treasure hunt to help find Captain Drake’s treasure and then we went into an interactive room where we took part in various role play activities.

We have been practising our Christmas Play which will be held on Tuesday 11th December. Please help your child learn their lines.

PE will be on a Monday morning this term. Please ensure all PE kits are in school and earrings are removed.

Please ensure all uniform is labelled, any items that may not be your child’s please return. Thank you we are looking forward to working with you throughout this year.

 

 

 

September 2018

 

Welcome! Maple class have settled in really well and have made lots of new friends.  This term our topic is Magic. We have shared the story Leon and the Place Between. Over the next few weeks we will be reading Room on a Broom and How to Catch a Dragon. Some of the other topics we will be looking at this year will be; Seasons and Festivals, Mini beasts, Healthy Eating, Life on the Farm and, to finish off the year, we will be learning about pirates.

We have planned five stay and play sessions throughout the year during which children will have the opportunity to share their work with their parents/carers. All dates are available in the school diary.

On Wednesday 26th September we have a photographer from the Kent Messenger group to take a photograph for the first class supplement, which will be published next month.

PE will be on a Thursday morning this term. Please ensure all PE kits are in school and earrings are removed.

June 2018

 

This week the children in Nursery and Reception had their sports day. They had great fun participating in various games and races. Next week we will be doing more creative activities and learning about summer and sand castles.

 

This week Maple class have been learning about the people that lived in a castle and the food that they ate. The children have also had class photos taken.

 

I would like to welcome you all back to school. I hope you had a lovely half term break. Last term the children did lots of exciting things. I would like to thank the parents for coming in for the ‘stay & play’ session. The topic this term is castles. It would be lovely if you talk to your children about them.

This week we have been learning about ducklings and their life cycle. We also have some tiny visitors (duckling eggs). They have hatched this week. The children are excited to see them. Just a reminder that the stay and play session is on Thursday 24th May 2018.

 

Our topic this term is Growing and we have been learning about growing plants. This week we are learning about ‘Growing Me’. We had a mum come in with her baby this week and talk to the children about how she looks after her baby. Next week we have a visit from a Doctor. You could talk to your children about what they would like to be when they grow up.

Hope you all had a lovely Easter break. This term we will be learning about ‘Growing’. We will have some little visitors in a few weeks. Just a reminder about PE kits being in school at all times and earrings taken out.

Maple class are busy learning about dinosaurs. This week we are going to be learning about palaeontologists and making our own fossils. Please make sure that full PE kit is in school and that all earrings are removed.

 

 

January / February 2018

 

Maple class are busy learning about The Naughty Bus. We have been designing and making our own cars and buses using junk modelling. PE is on Thursday every week, please make sure all earrings are removed.

 

Happy New Year. This term Maple class are going to be learning about toys. We are going to compare old and new toys and build our own. This term we are going to be reading the Naughty Bus by Jan Oke and the Teddy Robber by Ian Beck.

 

November 2017

 

Maple class have been busy learning about the Gruffalo and making Gruffalo biscuits. In maths we have been learning about teen numbers. We are also busy learning our songs for the Nativity.

 

Maple class have been learning the story of Owl Babies and we have got very good at retelling the story with actions. We are also having great fun learning about capacity in maths.

 

 

For DT week Maple Class have been learning about the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have made rafts, puppets and painted fairy tales. Please help your child with their reading by reading with them every day and writing in their reading records.

This week Maple Class have been very busy. We have made and painted our own aliens out of clay. Thank you for coming to our Stay and Play on Tuesday, it was lovely to see you there! Now it is warm and sunny, please make sure your child has sun cream on and brings a hat to school. PE is on Thursday so please make sure all earrings are removed.

 

Maple Class are busy learning about Space. This week we are writing about our visit from Zangzoo the Alien. We are practising using finger spaces in between our words. In Maths we are learning to divide. PE is on Thursday so please make sure all children have a PE kit and any earrings are removed. On Tuesday 23rd May at 2pm, Maple Class is having a stay and play session. We look forward to seeing you there!

Maple class are busy learning all about space. This week we have been making aliens out of playdough and learning about money so that we can go shopping in our moon shop. Next week we will be reading the book ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and might even discover Aliens at school!

Maple class have had a fantastic term learning all about animals. Next term we are going to be learning all about Space. Please make sure your child has a spare change of clothes and shoes or wellies at school in case we get messy outside! Have a nice Easter Holiday.

 

Maple class are learning about spring. Next week we will be planting potatoes and bulbs, learning about the different parts of a flower and exploring how animals move in PE. Please make sure your child has a PE kit in school.

 

Maple class are busy learning about animals. This week we are learning about ‘The Tiger who came to tea.’ We have made our own sandwiches and measured tigers’ feet. Next week we are going to be sequencing the story.

Maple class have been learning about the Gingerbread Man. We’ve made boats and tested if they float or sink. We have also baked gingerbread men. Next term we will be learning about animals. Please send in lots of cardboard and plastic containers for junk modelling! Have a fantastic half term.

This week Maple class have been learning about little Red Riding Hood and Chinese New Year! It is the year of the Rooster. We have tried Chinese food, made our own dragons and learnt about the origin story of Chinese New Year.

 

 

Happy New Year! Maple class have settled in well. We are busy learning about winter and have had a visit from Perry the Penguin who has come all the way from Antarctica to visit us. Our topic this term is traditional tales and next week we will be finding out about the 3 little pigs.

Maple class are busy learning our lines and the songs for our Christmas play on the 20th December. Please help your child to learn their lines. Thank you for coming to stay and play; it was great to see so many of you!

 

November 2016

 

Maple class is busy learning about people who help us. This week the Tooth Fairy came to see us. Next week we are learning about the Fire Service and are looking forward to the firemen visiting us on Monday. Thank you for all the wellies and spare clothes you have sent in!

 

We have been reading Burglar Bill by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. Burglar Bill came into the classroom and stole some of our toys, we have written lists of the things he took, made wanted posters, and learnt all about the police. Burglar Bill wrote us a letter to say that he was sorry for taking our toys and that it is wrong.

 

Kirsty the PCSO came to visit us, we tried on police uniforms and were very excited to turn the police car’s blue lights on.

October 2016

 

We really enjoyed learning about Halloween, we made bubbling witches potions, explored inside pumpkins and wrote our own ingredients lists for potions. 

 

Maple class have been very busy this term; we have learnt about our bodies, rescued vegetables from the Evil Pea and discovered all about Autumn and Harvest. Next term we will be learning about people who help us. We hope you have a lovely half term.

 

We are having lots of fun in Maple class and all the children are settling in well. This week we are reading ‘Supertato’ and the children are enjoying saving the world from the Evil Pea. PE is on Thursday so please make sure your child has their PE kit and any earrings are removed.

This week we are learning about the different parts of our bodies. Next week we will be talking about our families.
