Welcome to Beech class
Beech class have been having lots of fun learning about everything under the sea. We have written fact files about sea turtles and are now writing our own narrative stories about the Rainbow fish. Beech have also created some fantastic art pieces using different painting techniques. We are all really looking forward to Pirate Day with Bonsai & Maple classes on Wednesday 10th July. Remember there will be a prize for the best dressed pirate in each class!
This term Beech class are going to be studying art work by Andy Goldsworthy, we will be exploring natural materials used to create art and having a go making our own land art. The children have been working extremely hard in Maths and English and are continuing to make good progress. Well done Beech Class!
Our phonics screening is fast approaching in June, in preparation for this the children will having extra phonic sessions throughout the school day. It is important that all the children have as much practise as possible so please ensure that you are reading every day at home with your child in order to support them as much as you can.
Please note that P.E for term 5 and 6 will now be taking part on Friday afternoons.
Beech class have been working extremely hard this term. We have been learning all about different continents and oceans in our topic. We wrote fact files about Christopher Columbus and investigated animals in Antarctica. In maths, we have been learning to order, compare, add and subtract teen numbers and, in English, we have written our own versions of the story Handa’s Surprise.
Beech class have particularly enjoyed art this term where we have learnt about Vincent Van Gogh. All of the children painted their very own Sunflowers painting which look amazing in the classroom.
Next term our topic is Home Sweet Home. We’ve been looking at the local area and looking at historical figures such Pocahontas.
Year 1 have been working extremely hard over the last two terms. All the children have settled well into their new class and are enjoying new challenges every day.
This term we have been learning all about Guy Fawkes and the Gun Powder Plot. The children have written diaries about what it would be like to live at the same time as Guy Fawkes and created some fantastic firework art.
We have a big focus in our class on reading and encourage the children to read every night at home. At the back of their contact books is ‘Buster’s Book Club’, this needs to be filled in on Wednesday nights with the minutes that children have read that night (our target is 10 minutes minimum). Please fill this is in, we are trying our best to beat the all the other classes.
Christmas play rehearsals are well underway and the children are doing extremely well. Our Christmas play will on Wednesday 12th December - we cannot wait for you to come and see it!
Beech class have worked hard this week writing stories about our super hero ducks (Doris, Daisy, Donald and Jermima and Sarah). Who saved the school and Mrs. Wilson from an evil villain. We will be having an end of year class party on Thursday 19th July (please note-this is different from stated in the letter sent home on Tuesday) Children are welcome to bring their party clothes to change into for the party.
Well done to all of Beech Class for a fantastic sports day! We have also been working extremely hard in class writing our own traditional tales in English and exploring multiplying in maths.
Beech class have had a fantastic week. We really enjoyed our trip to Wide Horizons in Horton Kirby. The children had fun searching for mini-beasts in the gardens and river!
Both Beech and Cedar class made all their teachers proud with their fantastic behaviour! Well done Beech & Cedar.
Year 1 have been working very hard and should all be very proud of the work they have produced and the progress they have made. Well done Beech Class! I hope everyone enjoys their half term.
Over the past few weeks Beech have been writing some amazing fact files about jungle animals. We are now going to be exploring lots of different animal stories. Our magic beans that we planted last term are getting very big; we are also going to be adding tomatoes to our garden this week.

Our topic this term is Amazing Animals. We will be writing fact-files about jungle animals and looking at habitats in science.
Beech class have been working hard writing instructions on how to grow a magic beanstalk. We have planted our very own beanstalks and are taking great care of them. Please can you ensure that your child returns their spelling book every Friday in order to receive their new spellings. Not many have been returned in recent weeks!
I hope everybody enjoyed playing in all the snow last week. Beech have been working hard on their writing this week retelling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Next week we will be changing the story to write our very own versions. Please remember to read with your child every night to support their progress.
Welcome back Beech class. This term our topic will be ‘The Potting Shed’. We will be looking closely at plants and re-writing the story of Jack and the Beanstalk in English. Please continue to support your children with their weekly spellings.
Beech class have been working hard all term. This week we have been writing our own stories based on Handa’s Surprise. In maths we are comparing numbers to 20. Well done to everyone who have been working hard and learning their spellings at home. Keep up the great work!
This term our new topic is Posting and Places. We will be looking at the 7 Continents and be writing letters and postcards. Spellings are now being sent home on a Friday. Please support your child with the learning of these for a weekly test on Thursdays.

Beech class have been working hard this week writing character descriptions of the Gruffalo. We are also working extremely hard practising our Christmas play and can’t wait to perform it later on in the term.
Welcome back Beech class. This term our topic is celebrations. We will be looking at all types of celebrations from all over the world! We will soon be beginning rehearsals for our Christmas play. Please support your child by practising any lines they may need to learn at home. Thank you.
On Monday, Beech class will be taking a walk around the local area as part of our Geography this term, please ensure children are wearing suitable shoes and bring coats to school. I would like to say a massive well done to all the children for settling so well into year 1 and working extremely hard this term. WELL DONE BEECH CLASS!

We have been exploring family trees in our topic and created a beautiful display for our classroom. Please can I remind parents to support their children with their reading by listening to them read every night. Thank you

Please read with your child and ensure they bring their books in every day. Please note that PE will be on Mondays. Children should keep a full PE kit in school and ensure earrings are not worn.

Beech class have been working hard this week. We are enjoying our new topic looking at castles and have been working on our sketching skills. As the weather is now hot please ensure your child is coming to school with the appropriate sun protection.

This week Beech class have been working hard. In science we have been looking closely at our growing beans and made some fantastic observational drawings. Homework books will be being sent back out this Friday; please support your child with this and ensure their book is returned on Wednesdays.

Over the last week the children the children have been working extra hard! We have been writing diary entries for a day in the life of a pirate and created our very own treasure maps. Well done to Temi our Buster’s Book Club star reader of the week! J
Welcome back Beech and Cedar class! Our topic this term is Pirates. Activities will include looking at maps and writing messages in a bottle. Please make sure all PE kits are back in school as soon as possible ready for our first PE lesson this term.
This week children in Beech and Cedar class have been working hard to write some fact files about mini-beasts. The children have produced some amazing work which can now be found in our class book in the book corner. Please be aware that spellings that are sent home for homework will be tested on Wednesday. Please support your children in learning these. Children must use the space provided in homework books to write these out to show their work.
Beech have been working very hard this week writing recounts in English. I would like to say a very big well done to all the children for their huge effort with their homework! Well done and keep up the great work!

This week Beech class have been working hard on creating news reports. They have been filming and writing about a Mysterious Beanstalk.

Welcome back Beech class, I hope you all had a lovely half term! This term our new topic is superheroes.

This week Beech have been working hard in maths, learning the time to o’clock and half past. We made amazing kites which we are now writing instructions for. We have worked hard all term and really enjoyed learning all about lots of different toys.
Term 1 is finally here! We hope everyone has had a relaxing summer and is ready for the new year! Our topic this term is Toys. Children learn about traditional tales, captions and produce descriptive writing. Our focus for maths over the next few weeks is adding, subtracting and confidently counting to 20. Can parents please check their child has the correct, named PE kit in school at all times.
Last Friday Beech and Cedar class held a teddy bear picnic. All the children (and the teddies) really enjoyed themselves. This week we have been looking at a variety of different toys ranging from the past to the present day! The children found this very interesting.
